Elementary School-Age Offerings
The Center on Central offers a variety of programs for children in grades K-5 listed below. In addition, The Center on Central also offers Parents’ Night Out and School Holiday and In-Service Camps, as well as birthday parties and music lessons for children of all ages.
Art - Comic Book Club for ages 6 & up

Create characters and a storyline and put it all together to make a real comic book. Students will create characters and modify them to make them fun and easy to draw. Each student will practice sketching, drawing, and shading. A fun storyline will be created and edited to fit with the comic book. Coloring techniques will be explored.

Sketch Club is a sketch, draw, and color class exploring alternative ways to bring ideas to life. The students will learn sketch techniques to create line, form and mass, as well as creative color and tinting. The class will use traditional and non-traditional mediums to create art in a fun way. Ideas will come alive while the student explores imagination and creativity.
Please bring any size sketchbook, reference material, and ideas to the first class.

Studio 4 is a place for young artists to experience painting and drawing in a studio setting. Drawings will be made and color techniques applied to sketches. A free flowing, aggressive painting style will be encouraged to promote confident brushwork, and to overcome the fear of making mistakes. Other mediums will be explored, such as collage and texture techniques.

Using a variety of games, exercises and activities, students will enhance their knowledge of theater. In addition, we will simulate auditions and rehearsing a guided theater piece. We will learn about the behind the curtain world of theater by creating sets, props and costumes. Our exploration will culminate in a performance for family and friends!

Private acting lessons are perfect for preparing for an audition or for preparing for a role in a school production. We look in-depth at the part you are preparing for to bring out the full potential of your performance. You will find an acting style that works for you so you can bring a truthful performance to your production or to your audition. Learn ways to ‘relax’ before auditioning and to fend off unwanted nervousness! No previous experience necessary. All ages welcome.

Come learn Spanish in a game-filled class that accentuates fun and immersion in the Spanish language.
¡Ven a Jugar! (come and play) is a 45-minute exploration of the Spanish language through role-playing, games, music, art, and other hands-on activities.
Many public elementary schools once introduced the study of foreign languages, only to cut these programs in the wake of budget deficits. What better way is there to continue to give your child a head start? It has been documented that young students ‘absorb’ knowledge. Neural pathways are formed making learning information easier later in life. In this class, children are exposed to the wonderful world of Spanish through the use of songs & rhymes. The addition of American Sign Language hand signs give students a visual association for unfamiliar words & aids in their retention. Coloring pages, puzzles, games, or simple craft projects are provided.
