Mondays, 5:15pm-6:15pm:
Explorations in Theater: Movement, Self-Confidence, and Self-Awareness through Theater Arts (for Grades 4-6)

In this fun class, students will discover tools - through using Theater Arts - which will help them to gain self confidence, learn leadership skills, and create an awareness of themselves and others, while also developing group cooperation skills. This course will also provide a basic introduction to theater - including basic theater term games, a fun and interactive theater history lesson, and learning about different mediums - live stage, TV and film. Students will find creative ways to explore theatrical characters and the world in which the characters live. We will be using movement-based exercises, in addition to exploring the use of costumes and props, and we will also be creating masks. We will devote part of one of the sessions to a lesson on “How to Audition**”. The five week session will culminate in a short, yet fun and original performance, which parents will be invited to attend. No previous theater or performance experience necessary.

What you will need: Clothes that you can “move” in (please no skirts, dresses or baggy pants); sneakers (no sandals or flip-flops); a water bottle; creativity, energy, and ENTHUSIASM!!

**Also: Bring any material that you have for an upcoming audition or any material for a character in a show you need help with.

Mondays, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Adult Improv Class

Ever wanted to try acting, but never got the chance to? This is the place to do it! We will begin each class with a warm-up, including relaxation techniques, awareness exercises, and methods of letting go of tension. When our bodies and minds relax, then we are able to concentrate on another characters’ world…next, we will move onto improv-based exercises that will help us to bring out the truth of characters and situations that differ from our own, and how to “think on your toes” in improv. This class is a great way to experience the joy of Theater Arts, to learn ways to de-stress yourself on a daily basis, to have self-confidence when presenting in front of a group, and how to have fun “living in someone else’s shoes.” This class will be fun, invigorating, and stress-free! No previous experience necessary.

Fridays, 4:30pm-6:00pm:
Theater and Community: Helping Others through Theater Arts (for Grades 1-6)

This fun and creative class will start off with a small introduction to theater to gain a basic knowledge of this medium we will be working in. Working together as a team, this class will create a completely original work - utilizing the basics of theater - to be performed before an audience. Ideally, this will be an audience that might not ordinarily get the chance to go see live theater - such as a Nursing Home, Veterans’ Medical Center, or center for patients with Alzheimer’s, to name a few. This course is a great opportunity for students to experience the power of using the arts to help others, while learning the basics of theater and utilizing their arts-related talents. No previous theatrical or performance experience necessary.

**Please note: Performance date(s)/time(s)/location(s) are TBA. This may require extra time outside of the regular session time. There is no cost for this extra time; however, parent transportation to these locations may be necessary.**

What you will need: Clothes that you can “move” in (please no skirts, dresses or baggy pants); sneakers (no sandals or flip-flops); a water bottle; ideas, as well as EXCITEMENT to help others!!!!
