Tom Caywood

Tom was born and raised in Delaware County and has traveled extensively during his professional years as a musician. Tom’s career performing in bands started when he was just 13. Most of those years were dedicated to playing the guitar, but he later added the keyboard to his repertoire. Even though Tom eventually left the music industry for a while, music never left his life. Since that time, Tom’s children Erin and Jon have been nurtured to appreciate and become proficient in music – including drums, guitar, keyboard, bass and composition.

Seven years ago, Tom decided to teach guitar as a means to earn extra income, but did not anticipate that it would bring him such joy. So much that he decided to become a full time teacher. Tom teaches many styles of music including rock, blues, country, finger picking, smooth jazz and a little bluegrass. Tom’s main instrument is guitar, but he also teaches beginner to intermediate bass and has now added ukulele with the rise of its recent popularity.

Tom has taught a variety of ages – from 6 to 60. Every student is unique and so is Tom’s teaching. Everybody has their own personality and level at which learning takes place and Tom’s methods mold themselves to fit each student’s needs. Learning an instrument does not have to be tedious or difficult – having fun is key in making the learning experience that much more worthwhile. Tom has brought his teaching philosophy to many students with much success, and looks forward to more success at The Center on Central.
